Florence
Welsh is the lead singer and personality of indie band, Florence and the
Machine, formed in South London, UK in 2007.
Florence
and the Machine is a band comprised of Welsh, Isabella Summers and other
artists that collaborate and play a dreamy blend of folk, art-pop, indie rock
and neo soul. With huge encouragement from the BBC, Florence received early
critical acclaim and attention from UK audiences, as BBC Introducing strongly
promoted the band.
“Lungs” was
the title of the band’s debut album. It was released on 6 July 2009 and reached
the number two slot in the UK Album Chart, retaining the position fir five
consecutive weeks. It finally reached the number one position on the album
chart on 17 January 2010 after remaining in the charts for 28 consecutive
weeks. In October of the same year, “Lungs” has spent an impressive grand total
65 consecutive weeks in the album chart.
