Hecker records the flotsam and
jetsam of daily life–cigarette buts, reciepts, Made-In-China labels, kitsch
objects, magazine and history text-book images—in photo-based paintings of
single subjects that are then crammed together into salon-hung, encyclopedic
installations that also include sculptures. The point in this Houston artist's
melange of Pop Art, Surrealism and commodity fetishism isn't so much meaning,
perhaps, as it is the sheer weight of randomness.
