With the
help of his canine collaborator Man Ray, William Wegman deflated the pretension
of Conceptual Art with lo-fi videos and photos documenting the various performative
shenanigans—starring the aforementioned Man Ray—produced in Wegman’s studio.
The tongue-in-cheek tone of his work was in keeping with the overall vibe of
SoCal Conceptualism, revisited here in this show pairing Wegman with some of
his L.A.-based contemporaries.
