Fowler’s
debut with the gallery runs concurrently with his installation for the
storefront window of the New Museum’s South Galleries. Both shows display his
gift for using flotsam and jetsam to create imposing, mixed media constructions
that recall a mix of religious altarpiece and Rauschenberg combine. The pieces here
memorialize the African-American artist’s friends and family members who have
been incarcerated, or killed by gang violence.
