Elliot Jamal Robbins, “Snow White Clapping”

Robbins, a Tucson artist who only recently earned his MFA from the University Of Arizona, employs an appealing slapstick style to deal with the contentious subject of black and queer identity. His large cartoonish ink drawings feature a boyish everyman standing in for the artist, who intersects with police violence, mass incarceration and other vicissitudes of African-American life; his videos, meanwhile, comprise found animation clips (e.g. Disney’s Snow White) overlaid with similar caricatures.
