Everything
that can go wrong will go wrong in Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick's Disaster!,
a raucously silly spoof of the 1970's favorite breed of blockbuster - the
disaster movie. Ramping up the cheese to dangerous levels, this jukebox musical
soundtracks the ever-escalating action with some of the decade's smoothest
numbers, including 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours' by Stevie Wonder and
Barry Manilow's 'Daybreak'.
Disaster!
was gleefully received by the critics during its Off-Broadway run in 2013, with
Time Out New York's Adam Feldman writing "I can't remember the last time I
laughed out loud at the theater as often as I did at Disaster!" Among the
top draw cast for this Broadway production are Tony winners Roger Bart (The
Producers) & Faith Prince (Annie), as well as Drama Desk Award winner
Rachel York (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).
What is
disaster! About?
The year is
1979, and a group of young A-listers are heading out for a night of
boogie-making at Manhattan's newly-opened floating disco. Little do they know
that the scurrilous owner has cut some corners when it comes to safety
measures, and the disco is not going to stay afloat for long, especially in the
face of earthquakes, tidal waves and piranhas. Can this band of prima donnas
make it through this escalating series of disasters? And if they don't, whose
death will be the most hilarious?
