Biography
Volbeat are
a Danish metal band that was formed in Copenhagen ,
Denmark . Their
music style is a combination of rock and roll and heavy metal.
The current
line up consists of vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, bassist Anders
Kjølholm, Jon Larsen on drums and Rob Caggiano, also on guitar. Poulsen formed
the band after becoming disillusioned with the current death metal music scene.
Their first album, released in 2005, was entitled ‘The Strength/The Sound/The
Songs’ and was a huge success in their home country of Denmark, reaching number
18 on the country’s charts. Following this, the band produced four more albums,
switched record labels and lost and gained members on their journey to success.
The band is currently signed to Dutch label Mascot Records and has released
five albums to date, to great success. All five of these albums are gold
certified in Denmark .
Volbeat
cite their musical inspirations as coming from a variety of sources, from
classic rock and roll artists such as Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, to modern
hard rock, heavy metal, alternative rock and hard core groups. Some of
Volbeat’s greatest songs include ‘Still Counting’, ‘A Warrior’s Call’, ‘Sad
Man’s Tongue’ and ‘Lola Montez’. The band has played with artists such as
Metallica and Nightwish and enjoyed several world tours. They have also
performed at several high profile festivals, including the UK ’s Download festival.
